Review: Sweet Evil
Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
GoodReads Synopsis: What if there were teens whose lives depended on being bad influences?
This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels in Sweet Evil.
Tenderhearted Southern girl, Anna Whitt, was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She’s aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn’t until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage, and her will-power is put to the test. He’s the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.
Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns.
My Thoughts: In the prologue, a baby girl is born as her mother lies dying from the childbirth. As the baby is handed to a man we assume is the father, the police break in and arrest him for murder. If you could walk away from this book, after reading that, then you are a much stronger person than I. I was totally and completely hooked…and it only got better from there! This book is a new favorite I foresee reading many more times.
Anna really has no idea what she is until she meets the drummer of a band. Anna knows she has some pretty interesting sensory skills, but she’s never advertised them nor wondered what the deal was until she meets Kaidan.
Poor Anna has a lot to learn and digest in an amazingly short time and her life depends on it. This was great story that covered a lot of ground. There was the mystery of what Anna is. Lots of chemistry between Anna and Kaiden that can never go anywhere. Lots of side stories with Kaiden’s friends. And the gift for Anna from the nun who she was placed with at birth.
Higgins creates a very imaginative world with an interesting take on demons and angels. We are left with lots of unanswered questions and a couple of cliffhangers, so there has to be another book in the works. I will be waiting with baited breath to see where (Cali maybe???) we go from here!!!
